Astrology explained

The insurance company Budget Direct has found in a study of 30,000 claims that over a year people of the star sign Cancer lodged 14 per cent more car-accident claims than the people of Capricorn, and 14 per cent does seem to be a significant difference in a survey of that size. It's puzzling. I have a close friend who is a Cancerian and she is a good and safe driver, but I do understand that there may be exceptions to the Cancer profile if the birth date is on a cusp.

At least I understand that now, because yesterday I talked to a professional astrologer about the danger presented by Cancerians.

Lisa Jones (0412 013 744) lives at Nelson Bay and specialises in psychological, spiritual and evolutionary astrology, and in case you don't know psychological astrology goes out to Pluto and is concerned with shape shift, spiritual astrology is concerned with the growth of the soul and evolutionary astrology is about karmic experiences, challenges and gifts.

This summary of just a part of my conversation with Lisa yesterday may clear up any confusion you may have about astrology.

The sun is about where we’re going consciously and it is important but not everything. The moon is the subconscious inner world, and everything we absorb from the moment of our first breath is the moon. It is the total of all our lifetimes, of everything a soul has encountered.

Rather than relying on just the sun, Lisa charts the sun, the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron (a planetoid), Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the north and south nodes (where the moon crosses the axis of Earth as it goes around the sun), the ascendant-descendant axis and the MCIC axis (the ascendant being how the world sees us on first glimpse, the descendant the part of our personality we don’t own, and the MC is the fullest potential in our life’s direction and the IC is our emotional foundation), aspects (dialogues between the planets), the progressions (which are the internal shifts within us as we grow) and the transits (the external influences on us every day).

Did you find that illuminating?

And Lisa tells us not to draw too much from the Cancerians' crash statistics because Cancer is about to undergo a profound change.

Do you have any lingering doubts about the validity of astrology? I'm hoping Lisa will come onto the blog to help clear them up.

Lisa Jones will have no doubt predicted she will get a lot of cranks and pranks today since some blogger published her mobile number. I am a firm believer in the revival of trial by water and fire of witches. Anyone suspected of being a witch should be thrown into water, and if they sink they are innocent, and if they float they are guilty, and that is where the fire comes in. Astrology has nothing to do with astronomy.

Lisa - I would like to know why current astrologers still use the sun birth signs (ie. the position of the sun in each particular star constellation 'house') from 2,000 years ago, when due to the shift of the earth etc over time, one's sun birth sign has now shifted one complete house. Shouldn't astrologers be using current astroNOMICAL data, not that from 2,000 years ago?

What is the best astrological time of year to plant chokos? I planted them during the equinox of Jupiter when Isis was in the house of Mars and they tasted like bland paper. I then planted them when Horus was in the second phase of Jupiter and they tasted like horse manure. Is there a cosmic shift occurring, or is it just that chokos are the fruit of the Underworld.

Its interesting that insurance companies will look for these things like this. How is that research useful?, how is my birth sign related to my driving record or motor vehicle? - oh that's right an avenue for money making. It might just be me but this smells like an excuse to try and justify a future price hike in premiums. After years and years of research they come out and state, your a certian sign so you will pay X dollars more than this other sign. Years of research are evidence of this, see. Yeah great.

are there 14% more Cancerians on their books than Capricornians? Benjamin Disraeli said there were three kinds of lies - lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Yes, the same occurred to me, fista, but there was no way of checking. Of course the variation between people of different star signs should have been checked if the survey result are to have any validity. I, as you may have gathered, have not put a great deal of store in those results.

I think even if I re-read this particular blog 100 times I still wouldn't be more illuminated. Sorry Lisa I don't get it. Mind you I'm happy to wallow in my ignorance. What I would like to know is..... Jeff you don't strike me as the astrology reading kind of guy - so how did you come up with this idea?

Many people do believe in star signs, Leah, and it should not surprise you that most of them are women!

Astrology is like religion, it's all in the mind of the beholder.

since you're so into this Jeff what about planet Gay? If a planet can make you introverted etc maybe there is some astral body that has forced blokes to prefer blokes? Also I would like to know how come all horses have the same star sign? Come to think of that maybe I could set up as an astrologist for pets. They wouldnt contradict you much would they? BTW---I did think of using the wood fired oven as a pet crematorium on the weekdays when we dont have visitors.
