Killer grandson at first denied murder

A man who has admitted gunning down his grandfather originally told police the murder was "baffling" because the victim had been such a generous and nice man.

In a videotaped police interview shown on Friday to a NSW Supreme Court jury, Ben Richard Clark said his grandfather Ernest "Dick" Clark did not have an enemy in the world.

"Everyone was best friends with him, so to speak," Clark said in the interview which took place on July 12, 2005.

"I have never heard a bad word against him."

Earlier, he said he had not gone to his grandfather's house on the night he was killed and had been out riding his motorbike.

The interview was shown at the trial of Ben's father, Michael Clark, 44, of Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

Michael Clark has pleaded not guilty to murdering his father Dick Clark, 74.

The jury has been told Ben Clark, 23, already has pleaded guilty to murdering his grandfather.

Ernest Clark was shot dead at the home he shared with his girlfriend at Bexley, in Sydney's south, in April 2005.

The Crown allege that, while Ben Clark pulled the trigger, his father was just as guilty of murder as the pair had plotted the killing so Michael Clark could protect his inheritance.

The trial is continuing.
