Maryville muso wins Tamworth country crown

Maryville muso Bob Corbett has been crowned the 2012 Star Maker at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.The father of two beat 19 other performers to win the title late last night.

Star Maker has launched the careers of some of country music’s biggest stars, including Keith Urban, Samantha McClymont of the McClymont sisters, and Lee Kernaghan.

“To have my own name listed amongst some of my heroes is a real privilege. This is a major turning point in my career and I can’t wait for what’s to come,” Corbett said following his win.

He ar Bob Corbett perform Dockyard Workers; an ode to his father, and to Newcastle.

Corbett has won nine 1233 Newcastle ABC Music Awards. In 2009, he received a grant from the Australian Government, launching him and his band on a national tour.

The year prior, Corbett released the critically acclaimed album Storyboard and reached the finals of both the MusicOz and Australian Songwriters Awards.

As the Star Maker winner, he receives an album deal and a recording season with some of Australia’s top musicians, as well a the use of a Toyota car for 12 months.

This year alone, 18 of the 50 Golden Guitar finalists are past Star Maker winners, including Kurri Kurri’s Kirsty Akers.
