 ALP challenged in Cessnock

ALP challenged in Cessnock

27 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
Fed up with Cessnock's "political soap opera", Cr Dale Troy will stand against sitting member Kerry Hickey at the March state election.

Cr Troy said yesterday that the thought of Mr Hickey retaining the seat for another four years was more than he could bear and said the people of the electorate deserved better.

"I want to be the people's representative in parliament, not the parliament's representative to the people," Cr Troy said.

"The people of Cessnock deserve better than the ALP soap opera they are getting at the moment."

Cr Troy said he had a number of approaches from people asking him if he would stand.

"I know I have the support base there so I think I'd have a pretty good chance of taking Cessnock to an independent seat."

Cr Troy said the Planning Minister Tony Kelly's announcement this week that he would put a planning panel in to oversee some Cessnock council decisions was the straw that broke the camel's back.

"It's issues like that where Mr Hickey should be stepping in but because there is so much animosity between him and Cessnock council he's not worried," Cr Troy said.

Mr Hickey did not want to comment on the matter yesterday.

He said other state issues such as policing, road and infrastructure funding and health needed to be addressed in Cessnock.

He said there was a dire need for a new police station and planning should be under way to expand the city's health services with large scale housing estates planned for Bellbird and Kitchener.

Poor Cessnock, certainly needs good people fighting for it! These Dictators who just take everyone over - have to go - the people really need to take notice and think before they vote. Look at the Good people who are willing to fight for you.

Hickey has to go. "Large scale housing projects planned for Bellbird and Kitchener"? Now let's think who the developers might be? Who have made large donations to the Labor Party - freely admitted on TV. "It's the way things are done" we are told. Oh, and Mr Hickey forgot Huntlee (Sweetwater never sounded as good did it). No wonder Labor needs its own "Planning Panel".

good luck dale. i would be 1 to support you as labor is a shot duck at all levels. they have made so many stuff ups the last being the removal of council's planning. you may then be able to find out how huntlee was ranked at the second last place suitable for development by the state govt and then was mysterially moved to the top.

Wish I lived in Cessnock so my vote would count - or seat of Newcastle, now that Jodi is looking so shakey. Sonia will probably survive in the safe seat of Wallsend, so my vote is wasted.

If ever there was an opportunity to challenge the status quo of the labor stronghold on our region - it is at the March state election. Hopefully a drovers dog could win against some of these wombats who have been 'serving' our region all these years. Go Dale, no doubt you will win. Now what we need is viable candidates without self serving agendas in Newcastle.

Dont get me wrong Kerry was great with the Privitisation of Cessnock jail. But the way the State Labor is holding all of us in contempt they will certainly never have my vote ever again. On a final note Keneally is just a puppet for the power brokers of the Labor Party. I see that now with the pressure that was placed on McKAY's seat with the loss of the development of Newcastle. the Puppet masters have ordered that Keneally , McKay and Backflip Robertson to have a special meeting and to announce something that will again gain votes

Finally a candidate who has some ethics. Dale go get him son. Kerry hasn't had his mind on this area for a long time. You only need to read the Herald to see that. With a independent seat maybe cessnock will finally get what it deserves!!! Vote 1 Dale Troy.

Dale Troy shouldn't get too carried away - I'd doubt even the Cessnock Labor branch would endorse him. Having said that, any independent that stands on a law and order platform up this way would probably romp in.

Cr. Dale Troy best of luck next March, give Cessnock a voice and fix the roads around the Vineyards and make a lot of people / tourists happy. Neither Kerry or Joel have this as a priority. I am from Newcastle so I can't vote for you but you have my support.

Does Dale Troy belong to a political party? The NSW Nationals contested Cessnock in 2007, however Cr Troy was elected to council as a Liberal in 2008. Which of the coalition partners will be fielding a candidate, and will this be Cr Troy?
