Ausgrid drops stadium naming rights

08 Feb, 2012 10:46 AM
THE Hunter’s major regional sporting venue will now be known as Hunter Stadium, following today’s announcement that Ausgrid will not participate in the tender process for the future naming rights of what was previously known as Ausgrid Stadium.

Ausgrid’s managing director George Maltabarow said Ausgrid has been the naming rights sponsor for the past 10 years but it was time to re-focus the company’s support for the local community in other areas, particularly by helping to strengthen support for maths, science and engineering in schools and universities.

Ausgrid’s naming rights for the stadium ended in December 2011

The tender process for new naming rights will be co-ordinated by the Office of Communities.

Who pays the electricity bill at AUSGRID STADIUM? Does AUSGRID sponsor this and is there solar panels on the roof?

In my opinion, this was always going to be the case as the sponsorship does not provide value without the knights attached.

It is in Newcastle and is home to the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets. Unless a naming rights sponsor is prepared to kick in dollars, there is only one logical choice - Newcastle Stadium.

Any other name will have people outside of the city scratching their heads and asking "where is that?"
