The official opening of the trail network in Glenrock State Conservation Area on Saturday had bike enthusiasts delighted.

While the Fernleigh Track received reams of press attention from go to whoa, the mountain-bike trails flew under the radar.

Years of work from Glenrock Trail Alliance volunteers Mick Plummer and Leonard Allen and the National Parks and Wildlife Service led to the network's existence.

It was a battle against concerned government officials and conservation groups, but the persistence of the mountain-biking community prevailed.

Alliance volunteers are not taking their win for granted.

They spend countless hours doing routine maintenance of trails.

The trails are for recreational use, but bikers hope officials will allow competitions to also take place there.
