ANTHONY Partridge likes his women fit, flexible, athletic and easy enough to "throw over his shoulder and hold on".
Kath Whalan fits that bill and will travel to Finland next week with Mr Partridge to contest the International Wife Carrying Championships.
The Singleton pair will travel to Sonkajarvi in Finland with their respective partners on June 25 where their plan is to snare a spot on the podium, hopefully in first place.
No stranger to the event Mr Partridge has competed in the national competition five times and has made the trek to Finland once before.
Last year his female counterpart was television personality and world class swimmer Giann Rooney.
While the pair came up trumps on the national circuit they had to relinquish their title because of Rooney's work commitments.
This year Mr Partridge reckons he is in with a chance with Mrs Whalan a dream partner.
"Kath is a little over 50 kilos but very strong, athletic and fit," he said.
"Our strategy is for her to hang on and for me to be running, using my arms for momentum and not having to hold onto her. She needs to be like a backpack.
The couple's big day is on July 4 and their main threat is from Estonia, unbeaten winners for the past 19 years.
"This whole event is great fun, good for the town and Kath and her husband Ben have been great friends and we are all going together," Mr Partridge said.
And the prize?
"It's the "wife's" weight in beer and working on Kath's weight that should equal about 100 pints," Mr Partridge said.
