City unveils Newcastle's image change

02 Jun, 2011 04:02 PM
THE city’s latest marketing tool, ‘‘Brand Newcastle’’, has been unveiled to civic and business leaders.

The colourful logo is accompanied by the tag line ‘‘See Change’’ and a marketing campaign that will promote it through tourism websites, brochures and signage.

New information kiosks have also been launched and are now running at 16 locations across Newcastle, including The Newcastle Herald’s office in Bolton Street.

Newcastle City Council’s Tourism and Economic Development Manager Simon McArthur said the new brand would greatly help to reinvigorate the image of Newcastle.

“This brand will provide an opportunity to consistently promote the city for what it is today – a genuine, ever-changing, vibrant and energetic place that is home to hardworking people and world-class industries.”

lol.... i wonder how much someone got paid to come up with the "logo" (mind you - i don't hate it)

shouldn't some of the letters be made to look like some lumps of coal? and some grapes. and some surf. and some pelican crap. and a train line. and some graffiti. and some old abandoned buildings and a giant KFC.

I dig it.

At least the ad's not as nauseating as the twee Port Stephens one. I guess that's a plus. Newcastle - you just keep holding on to the fact that Lonely Planet named you in the top ten places to visit - just as well the place has beautiful beaches, because Hunter St is just sad, and most other experiences can be found in comparable cities. Seriously, you should take a look at how your namesake Newcastle-upon-Tyne reinvented itself from a working class industrial city into a truly inspiring, vibrant and must-see world class destination.

Why would people come to the steel and coal city. That's right it hasn't changed a great deal. All northern suburbs are covered in black crud and it's about to get worse. Oh and don't drive you'll spend half a day at train gates. Love the pitiful beach charade that the tourism people try.

When used, I hope it's well presented, because otherwise it's just going to look like they couldn't afford a proper signwriter!

This guy has got to be joking.

Is it true that his childish bit of basic computer playabout cost the ratepayers $80,000?

Kudos to the designers and team at NCC. This is a refreshingly modern take on our city's image and one that has obviously required research and consideration.

What I like best about the new-look logo is that it doesn't associate itself with the hackneyed image of a family-oriented city. This new brand image will appeal to Gen Y and communicates the creative and experimental aspects of post-industrial Newcastle.

OH THE HUMANITY! how much did they flush down the sewer to come up with this utter crap. The city doesn't need rebranding, it just needs free 2h parking and incentives to occupy heritage buildings

When photocopied or faxed it is simply balck and shows nothing.

Let's hope the week's pay cheque for those that produced this brand is blank and shows nothing!
