Country music festival moves to the Hunter

04 Aug, 2010 04:00 AM
AUSTRALIAN roots and country music festival CMC Rocks The Snowys is moving from Thredbo to the Hunter Valley.

The Country Music Channel (CMC), Rob Potts Entertainment Edge and Chugg Entertainment announced yesterday that after three successful years in Thredbo the festival had grown and needed a larger site.

Next year the festival will be held in the Hunter Valley in March and will be renamed CMC Rocks The Hunter.

It’s welcome news for Newcastle musicians such as Mark Wells, Kirsty Lee Akers and Morgan Evans who have all travelled to the festival to perform in recent years.

The nearby Central Coast is also a haven for big-name country performers such as Kasey Chambers (pictured), Felicity Urquhart, Gina Jeffreys and Beccy Cole.

“The fans have really taken this event to heart and with the plans we have for the continued growth of the festival, music fans can look forward to bigger and more exciting line-ups on the new site,” Rob Potts from Rob Potts Entertainment Edge said.

Organisers are yet to announce a venue for the event.

Well that's a real blow to us down here in the Snowy Mountains. Would have been great to know about the move, so we could have lobbied against it being taken away. It was a big money spinner for our region in the off season, bringing many tourists to our towns. Well Done to the powers that be. Hope that it falls down on it's butt up there.

I think its great for the Hunter region. Maybe the Snowys community should have been more concerned when they were price gouging everyone with ridiculous accommodation prices and demands for minimum nights. Each year it got more expensive. They have noone to blame but themselves.

Dragon lady...everything you just said is in direct contradiction with the feeling of CMC RT...whatever. It's Mabo, it's the vibe... It may be a let down for you but is a win for another vibrant region of our beautiful country. Spread it around and get on with the love of our great talents!

The new festival is a boon for Hunter and Central Coast country performers, including Kasey Chambers.
