Decision on pound's future PET WELFARE

18 May, 2011 12:00 AM
HUNTER Animal Rescue claims hundreds of animals are expected to die if Cessnock City Council acts on an agreement for the RSPCA's Rutherford shelter to take over the council's pound operations.

Councillors will be asked tonight to endorse the five-year agreement, reached after four months of negotiations.

Hunter Animal Rescue said the council has not consulted with the community over the decision.

A report to councillors said the agreement provided a significant economic benefit to the council when compared with the cost of the council providing its own pound.
