Tickets have been limited for tomorrow's "Flat Track Attack" at Gateshead Indoor Sportsworld to ensure spectator comfort.

Crowd numbers are not the only thing increasing.

The number of Newcastle Roller Derby members has grown from 20 to more than 100 in the past 18 months.

Club president Michelle Latham said the increase in popularity was due to roller derby's obvious difference from more traditional female sports like tennis or netball.

"A lot of the girls are out there to just see another sport," Ms Latham said.

"It is quite a spectator sport as well. The guys love the fact it is girl-on-girl violence."

Social skates are held at Gateshead Indoor Sportsworld every Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

The club's next recruitment drive for competitors will be held from June 15.

Tomorrow's bout between local sides the Old School Brawlers and Modern Day Divas starts at 1.30pm.
