Duralie open-cut extensions approved

10 Nov, 2011 03:12 PM
CONTROVERSIAL extensions to the Duralie open-cut coalmine in the Gloucester Valley have been approved.

The NSW Land and Environment Court granted the approval today after upholding an appeal against them in May.

The Ironstone Community Action Group had protested against the mine’s extension, citing dust and noise impacts.

The chief judge of the environment court modified the conditions of the extensions in a 100-page report before granting approval.

Extensions to increase the life of the mine from 2013 to 2020 were originally approved in December last year.

Evil mines, all the ever do is create jobs, save us from recession, building communities, paying for our schools and roads and hospitals etc... The nerve of them. It's as if we are a coal city or something. Just because they are the back bone of australia i think we should pick on them and drive them away with our pitch forks.

We just wonder when this Juggernaut is going to stop. This means that the NSW Government will give the go ahead to Gloucester Coal to expand Stratford mine, which means two more open cut pits and they will be worked 24/7.....that is what Gloucester Coal is asking for. What is happening to our country? On the eve of Remembrance Day, Lest we Forget.

Could not have put it better Muriel. There are no words strong enough to describe the disgusting arrogance and greed of these companies.

Who cares about people? Who even notices those residents who have to put up with the impact of noise and dust? Who cares about residents whose investment in their properties is now worthless?

Tell me if you are in government, do you care?

If you care then act - stop this victimization of our population and destruction of our environment.

The valley is being destroyed. Health is already impacted, property values too! The land we use to grow our fodder and graze our animals in the valley is being whittled away for a gain for the next 30-40 years. Our water is being runied by coal and soon gas. Nothing left for the kids. The miners took it all. Miners, knowing what you are doing to people, beggaring them like this, making them sick, how can you live with yourselves? You won't be able to eat your coal, breathe in your gas. You are creating a dead valley from what was once a beautiful, well watered and green place. Shameful.

Exactly right shockwave all these people moaning about the coal industry need to walk the walk. Give up all your electrical goods and cars before you go on and whinge about it. The coal industry has kept our economy going not hobby farms and vineyards. Australia contributes little to global CO levels why not go over and protest in China and see how that pans out.
