Fig removal expected to be completed tomorrow

06 Feb, 2012 04:23 PM
Newcastle City Council expects the removal of the Laman Street fig trees to be completed by early tomorrow afternoon.

In a statement, the Council said of the three trees still standing, two are substantially removed and the other half down.

Wind slowed the removal of the fig trees today, but the statement said the job was almost done.

The stumps will remain in the ground until work to rehabilitate the road is undertaken.

All we need now is for Civic Parks Figs to be removed then we could have an uninterrupted view of Laman Street from my office.

I'd post a message about progress and reconcilliation, but then I'd get death threats and abuse from SOF/Socialist Alliance.

Instead I'll simply say... happy it's over and that law, democratic majority and sensibility eventually won the day over noisy minority groups that think trees in their final years are worth more than children in their early years.

When all 14 Trees are chopped down and pulverised, then SOF no longer remain relevant.

Typical Council contradiction. One statement claims removal will be completed tomorrow. Next statement says removal will not be completed until some unspecified future date because the stumps & roots will remain. Half baked job from a half baked Council!
