FIREFIGHTERS are working to contain a bushfire near Singleton and emergency services are being deployed in Cessnock where trees and powerlines have fallen in strong winds.
A 30-hectare fire is burning off Putty Road in Howes Valley approximately 60 kilometres south of Singleton.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is protecting properties in the path of the fire and has called in aircraft to assist.
RFS Hunter Valley incident controller Superintendent Paul Jones said it was expected to take all day to contain the blaze.
He said the incident was a reminder to Hunter residents to have a bushfire survival plan.
In Cessnock, State Emergency Service and Ausgrid crews have been called to multiple locations, following reports of fallen trees and powerlines.
It follows an SES alert this morning warning of damaging winds affecting the Hunter.
