IF only every hour could be Earth Hour for the Killen children of Lambton.
"The kids love it so much that we don't just wait for the official Earth Hour," mum Vanessa Killen said.
"We're doing it regularly for something fun for the kids."
The energy-conscious family spent their Earth Hour on Saturday night surrounded by candles and board games.
A recycling fanatic, Mrs Killen said it wasn't until after her two children, Darcy, 5, and Olivia, 7, were born that she and husband Matt became so environmentally savvy.
The family recycles some water, grows vegetables and recycles every possible item.
"The kids are so aware of how important it is to be environmentally aware, they are learning new things every day," she said.
Several Darby Street restaurants also switched from electric to candle light for the evening and Rebecca Smith's birthday party at her Mayfield home was lit with candles and lanterns.
The white-themed party was held during Earth Hour celebrations.
With no music, Rebecca and her 20 girlfriends improvised by singing a few songs.
"Earth Hour shows us it's possible to do something active towards climate change," Ms Smith said.
"We all came away from it thinking a little bit greener.
"They should think about holding it for a whole day to test how people would go without electricity. That would be interesting."
