Gidley the dark Knight of Earth Hour

23 Mar, 2009 09:28 AM
KNIGHTS fullback and Earth Hour Ambassador Kurt Gidley wants Hunter residents and businesses to switch off for an hour at 8.30pm on Saturday.

"I hope everyone gets behind it," Gidley said.

"Hopefully it will keep growing and people will continue to support it. I certainly will."

Gidley said Earth Hour reflected growing environmental awareness throughout the community.

"When I was growing up I didn't recycle too much stuff, but I find myself using the recycling bin more than the other bin at the moment," Gidley said.

"I think everyone becoming more conscious about the environment."

I am turning all my unnecessary lights on on Saturday to draw attention to the fact that they are nomally turned off, unlike my neighbours whose unnecessary lights are always on and who will "feel good" on Saturday when they turn them off for an hour.
