Greens opposed to coal exports

13 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
Greens Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon will be in Newcastle today to highlight her party’s opposition to continued coal exports.

Referring to the expansion of the Newcastle’s third coal-loader, Ms Rhiannon said: ‘‘How incongruous that in the same week the NSW government is spruiking a new climate change plan its badge of honour is a boom in Newcastle coal exports.

‘‘NSW will continue to miss greenhouse reduction targets while it’s shackled with this huge coal baggage.’’

She said both levels of government should be promoting renewable energy.
