Hazard reduction control burn in Blackbutt Friday

Hazard reduction control burn in Blackbutt Friday

24 Sep, 2009 02:47 PM
A HAZARD reduction control burn will be carried out in Blackbutt Reserve off Carrington Parade, New Lambton, tomorrow, Friday 25 September, between 8am and 3pm.

A Newcastle City Council spokesperson said the burn would help to reduce fuel build-up before the fire season began.

The burn will be undertaken by New South Wales Fire Brigades and Newcastle City Council, weather permitting.

Nearby residents are encouraged to take precautions against smoke, hot embers and heat generated from the fire by:

closing windows and doors to keep out smoke,

removing clothing from the clothes line,

protecting or removing items that may be damaged by hot embers, smoke or radiant heat (such as outdoor furniture, pool covers, plastic items, plants, watering systems,)

protecting pets.

People who are affected by asthma or respiratory disease should take steps to protect themselves from any smoke, the spokesperson said.

No fuel, no fire. Good to see a Council with a sensible fire contol practice.

A bit late in the season for a back burn but still a good sign.
