Hilltop Hoods for Groovin the Moo

08 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
ADELAIDE’S hip-hop pioneering trio, the Hilltop Hoods, will return to the Groovin The Moo festival for 2012.

The group headlined the first Groovin the Moo festival at Maitland showground in 2006 and this year marks their third performance at the event. They were also on the bill in 2009.

Member Daniel Smith, aka MC Pressure, believes the group has always connected with people in the Hunter and enjoyed a great reception.

Groovin The Moo concerts will start in Bendigo on May 5 and include Maitland on May 12 at Maitland Showground.

A mix of Aussie and overseas chart toppers will perform this year.

The overseas acts will be led by English indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs, whose number one UK hits include Ruby, and fellow countrymen The Maccabees.

Politically charged American hip-hop stalwarts Public Enemy will return to Australia for the festival as will Germany’s Digitalism, who played at the Parklife festival last year.

Besides Groovin the Moo favourites the Hilltop Hoods, the Aussie performers include Sydney rockers Bluejuice and Matt Corby as well as Melbourne-based rapper 360 and Kimbra.

Corby was number three on the ARIA charts this week with his hit Into The Flame. The Hilltop Hoods sat at number six with I Love It while Kimbra’s massive hit with Gotye Somebody That I Used To Know has dropped to 13th place after 30 weeks in the charts.

Last year’s event at Maitland attracted more then 15,000 revellers to watch acts such as The Wombats, hip-hop veterans House of Pain and Aussie favourites Cut Copy and Gotye.

The festival, which was originally held at Gloucester in 2005, has grown enormously over the years and has become a fixture on the Australian music event calendar.

Tickets go on sale for the Maitland event on Wednesday, February 15.
