Institution bucks trend in ranking

10 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
THE University of Newcastle bucked national trends and improved its performance in international university rankings.

The institution increased its position in the QS World University Rankings by 10 places when the 2010 list was released this week.

The University of Cambridge was ranked number one, with Newcastle ranked 256th.

The rankings of 18 of the 25 Australian universities that made the list in 2010 went down compared with 2009, with Newcastle placed 12th out of Australian institutions.

It followed the recent release of the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities that placed Newcastle at 352, 12 places higher than 2009. with SMH
