Jets star Ben Kantarovski hoping for good HSC pass

17 Dec, 2009 04:00 AM
TRAINING came ahead of HSC marks for Newcastle Jets player Ben Kantarovski yesterday.

Kantarovski has spent the past two years fitting HSC study around his international and national representative duties.

The Lambton High student sat his chemistry exam while in Saudi Arabia last year to play for the Young Socceroos, after taking a shortened version of the subject at TAFE to give him more time to train.

He sat the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education exam in Queensland on October 30 finishing just before he was due to take to the field with the Jets against the Brisbane Roar.

The mid-fielder sat an English exam on the morning of the Jets' win over the Mariners and sat his final exam, physics, last month at Chatswood High before flying to Indonesia with the Young Socceroos.

There were no times for schoolies trips for Kantarovski, with international and A-League duties calling.

When it was time for Kantarovski to find out his marks yesterday, soccer again took precedence.

"I had training at 8am and I got up a bit late so I still haven't looked," he said.

"I want to wait until tomorrow when I have the overall mark and won't have to worry about what's going to happen next."

Kantarovski hopes for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank above 82 and wants to study architecture at the University of Newcastle next year, pending soccer commitments.

Congratulations to Ben for doing such a fine job balancing professional sport with school. He is just the kind of role model that young people in Newcastle can look up to. When he goes on to fame and glory we'll all say we knew him when. A true inspiration from a local boy done good.
