I'm sick to death of hearing about 'glassings' and I don't use the word 'incidents'- the thought of the severity of these offences hardly warrants the term.... its overdue to send a very clear message to offenders with APPROPRIATE sentencing that reflects the true maliciousness of these crimes!

Good comment "over it". Our politicians who moderate the application of the states laws obviously believe that the community accepts glassings as a normal part of life. It may surprise you to know that many of the people who write to this forum will defend what goes on in the streets of Newcastle to the death. They claim to be unaware of any violence or glassings at their pub and are adamant that everything is OK. It seems that the politicians are simply following this expressed community standard. The only way to change this is for the silent majority to elect political representatives who will rid our communities of the unacceptable abuse of alcohol and sickening violence.

It is not surprising that such assaults are becoming more common. Those convicted of such offences do not ever seem to be made to bear the consequences of their actions - to pay for ALL the damage they have caused, physical and mental to their victims.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
