Man taken for a ride on his stolen car

16 Mar, 2010 09:15 AM
A MAN desperately clung onto the bonnet of his stolen car after he woke to find thieves reversing it out of his Hamilton South home.

Police said the Stewart Avenue resident heard noises about 11pm last night and walked outside to find the family’s Toyota Camry heading out of the driveway.

He immediately dived onto its bonnet, the car thieves continuing along Cram Street with the owner still on board.

Senior Constable Tony Tamplin said the driver accelerated and braked harshly in a bid to throw the owner from the bonnet.

The car slowed near the intersection of Elliott Street before the owner bailed off.

He described the thieves as being young, possibly aged in their teens, of thin build and fair complexion.

The car is a 2004 silver Toyota Camry with number plates APL-47T and is still outstanding.

the cars owner has obviously been watching movies but not well enough. after launcing himself onto the bonnet he should have kicked in the windscreen and then karate kicked the two robbers in the head simultaneously, knocking them both out. he could then have taken control of the car and driven them unconscious to the police station.

A silly thing to do - but interesting that this was his reflex action. Some people spend so much time in the virtual world these days that they can forget what is fantasy and what is reality.

The real concern here is not the theft of the car in its own right but the fact the perpetrators were willing by their actions to endanger the life of the victim by their deliberate actions to avoid apprehension. If they are caught I hope Police and the Courts take this into account.

He did that for a Camry? Imagine what he would have done if he had a FORD!
