Mount Thorley Warkworth's expansion approved

06 Feb, 2012 12:47 PM
MOUNT Thorley Warkworth’s controversial expansion has been approved by the state government.

The extension means the mine will continue operating for a further 12 years beyond its original 2021 end date.

Work is now approved to continue until 2033.

Mount Thorley Warkworth operations general manager Cam Halfpenny said the approval provided employees and peripheral businesses with security.

Full report in tomorrow's Newcastle Herald.

Of course, this assumes that the mining boom will continue for next 20 years. I'm not saying it won't, but its unlikely...

Why is this excellent news? There's just a few low skilled jobs, it'll be a major scar on the landscape and only an idiot could believe that AGW isn't an issue and this wouldn't alleviate one little bit!

Im not opposed to expansion, but they should replace the road so it goes along the new boundary.

Nothing for the community all for the mine and employees.

I am not a big fan of open cut mines, but they are certainly the wool on the sheeps back for Australia now.

More jobs for all!!!
