'One-stop shop' drug dealer jailed for 28 years

07 Nov, 2009 03:00 AM
THE man who flooded the Hunter Region with kilograms of drugs was sentenced to jail for 28 years in Newcastle District Court yesterday in what the judge described as "enormous, large-scale drug dealing".

Judge Peter Berman said Mark Allan Paxton ran a "one-stop shop" for Newcastle's drug dealers after making three $100,000 deals last year.

Police found 38,700 ecstasy tablets, 335 grams of cocaine, half a kilogram of methylamphetamine, half a kilogram of heroin and 2.6 kilograms of cannabis when they searched Paxton's Balmain home in May last year.

The ecstasy weighed 81/2 kilograms.

Paxton, 35, pleaded guilty to supplying large commercial quantities of drugs and was jailed for a minimum of 21 years.

He will be eligible for parole in 2029.

"This was enormous, large-scale drug dealing," Judge Berman said.

"These were quantities rarely seen in this court."

Strike Force Nellinda was established to investigate drug dealers in the Newcastle area, a statement of facts said.

The area's dealers were looking for a reliable source of the drug ice when they were introduced to Paxton in March last year.

The first deal of 15 ounces (425 grams) of ice at $6500 per ounce fell through, but Paxton quickly organised a deal for 10 ounces (283 grams) of ice and 16 ounces (453 grams) of the drug speed for $110,000.

Paxton offered heroin at $10,000 per ounce and ecstasy at $11 per tablet for orders of 1000 or more or $10 per tablet for orders of 10,000 or more.

Another deal was organised on April 13 for Paxton to sell 500 grams of ice for $115,000.

The drugs and cash were exchanged two days later.

On May 8 a deal to sell 18 or 20 ounces of ice fell through, but the buyers left $110,000 with Paxton. They returned the next day and picked up 20 ounces (566 grams) of methylamphetamine and 3.1 kilograms of cannabis.

Paxton was owed a further $45,000 for the deal.

He was arrested that day.

Paxton told the court he was a drug addict who let people store drugs at his house.

He refused to name names because he feared for his life.

Judge Berman said Paxton was trying to minimise his criminality.

et. drugs will always be around, don't get me wrong i'm not for taking drugs & the selling of drugs, but lets be real here, if the government legalised let say, marijana, as a drug in pharmacys it would be benifting alot of people with joint pains, sleeping problem, eye problems & strees. Also the government would make a killing off the profit too Marijana has also been provin that it is a better drug then alcohol, for example, you've got two people at a party, one is drunk, the other is stoned, who do you think is going to cause a fight, the guy running around with his shirt off screaming and carrying on, or the guy on the lounge woundering if there drink is half full, or half empty. My advice to you is if your son decides to take up pot, let him, would you rather him pissed and causing fights, or him in his room playing games and been stoned. I predicte in the next, say, 4 years marijana will be legalised, barrack obarma already said he will legalise it if he gets a second term, & austrailia beening in love with american & all will surly follow his example. Don't judge drug dealers either... Do you know what situation he was in, maybe he has a family to feed

Hey Death, you are a fool. I have read some rubbish recently but your letter is just pathetic. There is no excuse for anyone to sell and supply illegal drugs. If drugs were removed from society, we would all be better off. We may just have enough tax dollars left to provide proper services.

Death, you obviously are not aware that those that take on heavier drugs like ice, cocain etc start off with using marijana. Those people with mental health issues do not need to use these drugs which often they do... there is no easy solution but when you loose a family member who started on lighter so called drugs and moves onto ice and commits a horrific murder of his own father than No we do not need to allow marijana to be leagalised

marijuana had nothing to do with "'some guy' murdering his own father. There are lots of stuffed up, mean, confused people on the planet who don't 'do' anything. Is anything in this world so bloody black and white? People make their own choices, even if they are the wrong ones. We as a community should be more open to talking about these things when they are right under our noses. Sounds like you are prejudice only because you've had a bad experienece....and you think it's the same for everyone else. Try to understand, live and let live, instead of judging and holding onto your opinions.

Jimbo: "Just like a pharmacy." Well said. Half the legal things people put up their nose seem to exist for nothing but making money..

i agree with you death.....if im at a party im a happier person when there is pot around rather than drinking. alcohol is a delvish drug....i bet all those HARD drug takers also started by drinking alcohol, smoked a bit of pot and hell, they may have even smoke cigarettes. But the hard drugs ARE bad and cannot be blamed earlier soft drug use but mere stupid on the person taking the drugs ....... And, drink driving and all the other effects of alcohol abuse has a longer lasting effect on people and familys than a little pot.... And by the way.. i dont do drugs, i dont drink and i dont smoke. This is my opinion only.

Death your a goose on the loose, who cares if he has a family to feed, there are plenty of jobs out there he could have taken on,these dick heads want to get rich quick, and why don't you think of the children and the adults lives and families he has destroyed with the drugs he makes money out of,pot is a stepping stone to heavier drugs, and you should read up on the 'bad' effects that pot does to the human brain.
