Police identify body found near Freemans Waterhole

A BODY found in a shallow grave in the Watagans has been identified as that of 33-year-old Rutherford man Steven Quire.

Police investigating his death have appealed for help, saying they are still baffled by the discovery.

The Herald first reported the discovery of Mr Quire’s remains on Tuesday after they were found on Saturday by bushwalkers and their dog in a remote part of the range near Freemans Waterhole.

A strikeforce made up of Lake Macquarie and State Crime Command homicide detectives was formed to investigate the discovery.

Mr Quire was formally identified through dental and DNA records.

Police have urged anyone with information about Mr Quire’s disappearance or death to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

i just wanna say im steven quires sister an proud of it, i miss and love him very much my kids say to me when lookin up in the sky mummy see the stars thats uncle steven i just wish who ever killed my brother would come forward for everyone's sake.
