Police officer booked for DUI

20 Jan, 2009 07:50 AM
AN off-duty police officer was allegedly caught drink-driving by a random breath test in Warners Bay.

The 41-year-old man was stopped while driving along Hillsborough Road, Warners Bay, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

He submitted to a roadside random breath test and allegedly returned a positive reading.

Police took the off-duty officer to Belmont police station, and after further tests he was charged with low-range drink-driving.

The man will appear at Belmont Local Court this month, a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

The officer is not assigned to a Hunter Local Area Command, and police are yet to reveal the officer's rank or to which LAC he is stationed.

It is believed he is a uniformed police officer.

"It's up to his area commander whether that will be released later on," Lake Macquarie duty officer Al Janson said.

"If they decided to release that information, it will be made available later."
