Retired Catholic priest Dennis John Corrigan will face trial in August after eight sexual assault charges were withdrawn this morning.
Crown prosecutor Helen Wilson said the charges that were withdrawn related to a complainant who died earlier this year, but other charges relating to two complainants will proceed.
Mr Corrigan, 69, of Mayfield, did not attend Newcastle District Court this morning for the brief hearing.
His bail was continued.
He is accused of sexually assaulting two males while they were boys in the 1980s.
