RSPCA kittens and puppies for a good home

10 Mar, 2009 11:37 AM
PUPPIES are pouring in and rooms are filled with kittens at the RSPCA in Rutherford.

The shelter has been inundated with litters of kittens and puppies in recent weeks as the breeding season comes to a close.

It needs to find homes for 44 kittens, 28 puppies, 14 dogs, 10 cats and four rabbits.

"There is not a lot of room," RSPCA spokeswoman Michelle Minehan said.

"Staff members are being pushed to their limit trying to find homes for all the animals."

It comes as clubs, cafes, bars and restaurant staff are urged to register for Tips for Tails between March 27 an 29.

Under the new fund-raising program, staff in the hospitality industry can donate a portion of their tips to the RSPCA.

Nine venues in the Hunter have already registered for the program.

"Newcastle is actually leading the way," Ms Minehan said.

The RSPCA shelter is in Burlington Place, Rutherford.

Inquiries can be made by phoning 4939 1555.

Alot of people are starting to get the drift to buy one from the pound isnt cheap....It does get desexed and it gets it injections to I think Microchipped to. You go to a vet and have them done one at a time or even at once see what the cost is.

I am a foster carer for puppies. If anyone is looking to adopt a dog, pup, kitten or cat please check out www.hunteranimalrescue.com.au We are all volunteers and the sooner someone adopts, the sooner we can foster another pup from the pound and save its life!

It is a pity that people are not more responsible. If everyone had their animals de-sexed there would be much fewer neglected and rejected animals out there. That being said, there are other animal organisations that also deserve credit for saving animals, such as Hunter Animal Watch (who incidently have a day at Speers Point Park this weekend). I have previously owned animals from the RSPCA when they were in Newcastle, although my last experience getting a dog from them has turned me off. After the drama of a fence check etc, the dog had a skin condition and I was stuffed around by the clinic then given a pile of excuses about the drama that I was put through. While it may be good to save an animal, check out the other organisations that are around too.

TIME FOR COMPULSORY MICRO-CHIP and LICENCES.... In UK and Australia ? Sadly today I have received an email "I'm sorry to inform you that your Downing street petition has been rejected. My petition read: "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to: Introduce 'Compulsory Dog licencing and microchipping'. The new Animal welfare Act has sadly failed to reduce or control the increasing numbers of pets that are dumped and abandoned. We have become a throw away society with animals increasingly becoming objects of cruelty and abandonment. The credit crunch has become the ideal excuse to discard peoples` unwanted pets but in reality has little to no truth as cutting down on a few small personal luxuries would easily cover any increased pet bills. Traceability and accountability are key in addressing the increased abuse of our beloved animals and with charities facing a bleak financial future the outlook for abandoned animals is very grim. Simply licence and register ALL dog / cat owners to help reduce impulse purchases and ease in which these animals can be tossed aside. A similar petition has only obtained 20 signatures which highlights to causes. Is it simply that our so called animal loving population have no interest in seeing their pets indentifiable and traceable if lost or do not feel that they are worth a little monitary imput to make all animals protected under a registration scheme. Or is it that the public are just not aware ?. Why is such a simple cost effective scheme not supported by the Animal Welfare charities, such as the RSPCA who constantly fill our media with statements claiming they are over crowded with abandoned and " lost animals " and calling for more money from the public to help address this serious growing problem. Where are the media who are very quick to highlight animal cruelty stories and the MP`s that fill Parliament when animal issues such as the hunting ban is debated ?. To myself, someone that has dedicated over 45 years to animal welfare it seems that with leaving serious issues pertaining to animal welfare such as. a} Addressing the issue of fireworks which kills, maims and terrifies thousands of animals each year, all of which is well documented yet ignored. b} Making pet owners accountable, responsible and traceable for their animals thus reducing the all too high numbers of abandoned, unwanted and abused pets.

we brought a labrador retriever from rutherford 4years ago is he has become a much loved family addition. we move into our new home in 5 weeks and we are going back to get a friend for zee (aka bananas) to play with. You can't go wrong with a rspca dog. the poor things have being neglected and because of the fantastic work by the rspca these poor animals find loving caring homes. More people should shop there. good on ya guys

I recently adopted a loving Tibetan Spaniel from Ruderford, her pond name was Lexie but I named her Lhasa. It is the first dog I have ever owned and I'm now 53 years. She ticks all the boxes and has brought my family and I a great deal of joy. I love her to bits. So thank you for giving me this wonderful time with a extremely delightful pet. She will bring us many years of fun and happiness. I wish to thank you all so very much for bringing us together
