Save Our Figs wins injunction

17 Nov, 2011 03:21 PM
SAVE Our Figs has won an injunction that will prevent the removal of the Laman Street fig trees until December.

The massive win for community activists will also mean the council must vote again on the future of the trees when it meets on November 29.

A three month moratorium will have expired by then, and the council can lawfully change its mind.

Funny how L&E decisions are abided by SOF when it suits them...

More money wasted.

This group has to be held accountable for all this wasted money.

Its a win for now but come November 30th those trees will be torn down.

Save Our Figs should foot the bill for this colossal waste of money.

Another day, another decision.

Back to council for another vote.

Then another rescission motion.

Then more court battles.

What for? 14 trees.

Let your energy go to something worthwhile like fundraising for our City Hall because I am certain the rates we pay will not pay for the needed refurbishment.

I Think council won't cut them down until they set a record. I'm guessing $1 million per tree is their target.

How is this lawful when council can't lawfully go back on their decision to remove the trees...which they have tried several times to do? This is really beyond a joke. SOF needs to stop unnecessarily spending time and money. Either our generation or the next will be dealing with these trees and their path of destruction beneath the ground. Lets deal with it now so the next generation can see some mature controlled planting in its place, its not rocket science just common sense.
