.. I woke up to something that I thought was jets flying overhead but not quite 'right' and wondered whether an exercise was happening at the RAAF.

I was lying in bed listening to the misses snoring than heard a boom in the distance followed a few seconds later the bedroom windows shaking for about 5-10 seconds. Salamander Bay.

Staying in a two story house at hawks nest and woke to two loud bangs and the bed and windows shaking. Thought someone had driven into the side of the house.

I live in the Newcastle inner suburbs and never felt any impac. Fortunately such minor seismic activity rarely causes damage and is quite common. Over 50,000 size 3 to 3.9 quakes are felt world-wide each year. Ones the size of the Newcastle quake number about 120 a year. I had to chuckle at the Sydney newspaper headline today "Earthquake Rocks NSW Hunter region". Not quite! Seems after the Newcastle Quake any minor seismic event in the region has to be portrayed as a potential disaster by some.

Wow, 3.4 on the excitement scale too, with people sleeping like babies through it and all!

It must have gone right past Raymond Terrace because everyone i've talked to today never heard or felt a thing, some of these people were up at 3am for a 6am start in the mines so I know they aren't lying. Having said that, it was only very small so its got me beat how anyone could hear or feel anything that measures so low.
