DANCING their way to the highest level on the international dance stage, Newcastle duo Talysa Trevallion and Damien Kolbas have returned home from New Zealand with trophies in hand.
The best friends, who have been dancing together for nine years, represented Australia in the New Zealand Ballroom Dancing competition.
"It was a tough competition," Trevallion, 19, said.
"We started at nine in the morning and didn't finish until midnight, then we had to be up early for hair and make-up."
But it was worth it.
After dancing for two days in the adult open grade against couples from Serbia, Italy, Russia, South Africa and the US, they won the Adult Open New Vogue event and placed fourth in the Adult Ten Dance Event.
The New Vogue event combines Latin and ballroom, and the Ten Dance event involves couples dancing five Latin and five ballroom routines.
Hoping to compete in the Blackpool Dance Festival in England next year, the most prestigious dance festival in the world, the pair train at the Maxi-Jazz studio everyday and travel to Sydney and Wollongong on weekends for coaching.
