A NEW range of short courses focused on sustainability are set to have the Hunter well prepared for transition to a low-carbon economy.
Carbon accounting and climate change courses have been added to Hunter TAFE’s syllabus this year to expand ‘‘green skills’’ in the region.
Hunter TAFE Green Skills and Environmental Sustainability Programs co-ordinator Chris Gilbert said changing environmental legislation was likely to affect the economy and alter industry needs.
‘‘To achieve the transition to a low carbon sustainable economy, the employment market will require a large shift in skills and training to equip new and existing workers with the skills needed to build and maintain environmental sustainability,’’ he said.
‘‘As part of the Green Collar Capability Project, Hunter TAFE identified the need to develop and provide green training to ensure that there are skilled workers with green credentials.’’
The Introduction to Carbon Accounting course explains the science and reasoning behind the emissions trading debate.
Introduction to Climate Change focuses on the scientific evidence driving climate change debates.
Hunter TAFE is developing a third course to help home and business owners demystify water and electricity bills.
