A TEENAGER who went on a graffiti tagging spree at Warners Bay is ashamed of what he's done and has vowed to stay off drugs and join the army to repay society.
David Raymond Anderson, 19, will be sentenced in Belmont Local Court next year after pleading guilty to three counts of damaging property.
He was referred yesterday to a community aid panel where he will do volunteer work before sentencing.
In a letter written to the magistrate, Anderson, of Second Street, Boolaroo, said he was high on drugs on the night in question and had no excuses for what he did.
"I can tell you that I was high on drugs, but my mother said that that is no excuse," Anderson wrote.
"I am ashamed of what I have done. I did go back two days later and spoke with the shop owners and cleaned my graffiti off the walls.
"I have now given up all drugs and my mother let me move back into the family home as long as I stay of (sic) the drugs.
"I have been nothing but out of control for the last seven months and I cannot explain why.
"I do believe that the drugs that I have been using could have contributed, but as my mum says, I am in control of what I do in my life.
"I am very sorry for the graffiti I did. And I can tell you now that it will not happen again.
"I am hoping to join the army after Christmas so that I can do something for society and to do something that I and my family can be proud of."
Simons Carpet Choice, Domino's Pizza and Tasman Employment were just some of the victims whose property was vandalised after 10pm on October 11, a police statement said.
Police were called to King Street, Warners Bay, after complaints about the graffiti and found wet tags on electrical boxes, fences, light poles and walls. They stopped four teenagers, two of whom were juveniles, and arrested them.
Anderson was carrying shoe polish and textas and had black marks on his hands.
He admitted tagging the businesses and was charged.
One of his co-offenders will appear in Belmont Local Court on December 18.
Anderson will be sentenced on February 26.
