What's on this Australia Day

Australia Day National Maritime Festival

From Tomorrow at 5pm, illuminated boat parade, fireworks display at 9pm over the Lighthouse and Dyke Point. Thursday, cross-harbour swims, Fort Scratchley will fire its Mark VII guns and visit from tall ship James Craig.

America’s Cup Yachts Display

The KA5 Australia and KA14 Steak n Kidney at the Newcastle Maritime Museum wharves.

Stomp to Support

Newcastle members of the Royal Australian Regiment will be ‘‘stomping’’ 32kilometres in honour of the 32 Australian soldiers who have died in Afghanistan. Depart Raymond Terrace Bowling Club at 6am and finish at Adamstown Army Reserve Depot, raising money for Legacy Australia.

Newcastle Australian Citizenship

City Hall will welcome 56 people from 24 countries. Starts at 8.30am.

Miss Porter’s House

Newcastle’s only National Trust building open from 1pm to 4pm.

Lions Club Valentine

Raising of the flag and national anthem at 9am in Allambee Park. Australian brekkie and Twenty-20 cricket.

Cessnock Free Australia Day Breakfast

7am at East End Oval. Official ceremony starts at 9.30am at East Cessnock Bowling Club. Includes citizenship ceremony.

Port Stephens Australia Day Celebrations.

Starts at 9am at Fly Point Park.

Lake Macquarie Festival

From 10am to 9pm at Speers Point Park. ‘‘Dunk the mayor’’.

Maitland Australian Citizenship

Free barbecue breakfast will start the day at Maitland Park.

Dungog breakfast and awards

From 7am at the James Theatre

Scone

The Lake Glenbawn Classic registrations begin at 8.15am. From 10.30am celebrations begin in Scone Town Square.

Celebrations at Merriwa Sports Club

Start at 11am and include awards ceremony and free barbeque lunch.

Raymond Terrace

Celebrations begin at the Bowling Club at 6am for 'Stomp to Support.' At 8.30am there's a dog show, followed by a smoking ceremony, flag raising ceremony and a number of other official proceedings.

Muswellbrook

From 7am til noon there will be free breakfast, family entertainment and pool entry at Denman Sports Complex. From 9am, activities begin at Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre.

Singleton

Brea kfast and entertainment from 8am, followed by an official ceremony at 9.30am.

The Cessnock Billycart Derby has been cancelled due to wet weather.

When in rome celebrate the italian traditons, when in OZ do the same and stop whinging. If you are hassled by the bogans ask which nrl team they support then call the cops.

....so you're saying that tomorrow on the 25th of Jan there will be the boat parade then later that night at 9pm the fireworks? Interesting, I thought Australia Day was on the 26th.

While other countries celebrate their national days with Military Parades, Fireworks, Concerts, Balls, we celebrate the day within our grog culture. As we commemorate colonization of the territory, world history recognizes the day as the biggest exodus of human history from England, by sending convicts as settlers. People with anti social behaviors may be the descendants of those settlers who share the same genes.

Let's hope they don't evacuate the harbour half-way through the swim if they see a shark/dolphin/pilot whale, or do sharks only hunt at beaches...
