Central Hunter police were called to an Edward Street address about 11.45pm and discovered a 30-year-old man suffering a single stab wound to the upper thigh.

He was rushed to Cessnock Hospital but later died.

A 28-year-old woman is being questioned by police.

A post mortem examination will be conducted and a report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner.
