Woman critical after King Street hit and run

5/11/2008 7:24:00 AM
A WOMAN is in a critical condition after she was ejected from a four wheel drive that then ran her over last night.

Police said the vehicle was sitting stationary in King Street about 10.20pm when the driver took off suddenly and completed a u-turn, across the medium strip.

Two of the four passengers were ejected as he drove over the strip.

A male passenger landed unhurt on his feet while a 21-year-old came down hard in the middle of the street and was run over by the four wheel drive.

The driver briefly stopped and then sped off.

Police were unable to find the car and the woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital with critical injuries.

They have also urged the driver to come forward.

Anyone with further information should contact Newcastle police 4929 0999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
