THE Newcastle Hunters will be using their away game against leaders Manly tonight as a dress rehearsal for the Waratah Australian Basketball League play-offs next month.
The fifth-placed Hunters cannot be displaced from the WABL top six despite a 91-76 defeat to Hornsby Spiders at The Brickpit last Saturday.
But they hope to improve on their 11-7 win-loss record by beating the Sea Eagles at Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre tonight, then Norths Bears at Broadmeadow next Saturday in their last regular-season game.
Third-placed Maitland Mustangs (11-6), who are also safely in the play-offs, play seventh-placed Norths (8-10), who are out of play-off contention, at North Sydney tonight.
The Mustangs finish with a road double-header next weekend against ninth-placed Hills Hornets (6-12) and second-placed Parramatta Wildcats (13-5).
The Hunters women play Manly at Northern Beaches ISC today.
