Hunters slip further down ladder

04 May, 2009 05:00 AM
GUARD Mat McGovern tried to inspire the Newcastle Hunters with his incredible haul of 13 rebounds but they were well beaten 122-85 by Hornsby Spiders in the Waratah Australian Basketball League on Saturday night.

McGovern scored nine points to go with his 10 defensive rebounds and three offensive boards as the Hunters slipped further off the pace after losing both matches on the weekend.

They were beaten 101-82 by Hills Hornets at Baulkham Hills yesterday to sit in last place with one win from their opening eight games.

Mat Cook led the team's scoring on Saturday night with 17 points and centre Al Swystun had 16 points and seven boards but it was all to no avail.

The women's team lost 62-43 to Hornsby on Saturday night but bounced back with a 72-63 win over Hills yesterday.
