Maddie Allen makes Australian squad

06 May, 2009 05:00 AM
NEWCASTLE basketballer Maddie Allen has been named in a preliminary Australian squad trying to qualify for the inaugural FIBA world under-17 championships next year.

The 15-year-old Newcastle Grammar School year 10 student and Gosford's Bree Parsons were the only NSW Country representatives selected in the 25-girl squad.

They will participate in a selection camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from June 15 to 18, from which a team of 12 will be chosen to represent Australia at the Oceania championships qualifying tournament in Brisbane from August 20 to 22.

Allen and Parsons were members of the NSW Country team that finished seventh at the Australian under-18 championships held last month in Gawler, South Australia.
