Maitland play host to Kings

27 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
FORMER Hunter Pirates big man Miles Pearce will return from New Zealand as one of several guest players for the Maitland Mustangs when they play the new-look Sydney Kings in a National Basketball League pre-season trial at Maitland Federation Centre tomorrow night.

The Kings have returned to the NBL after two years and will use the hit-out as a warm-up for the first game of their 2010-11 campaign against New Zealand Breakers at Sydney Entertainment Centre on October 16.

Maitland will be coached by Tim Mallon, allowing regular mentor Luke Boyle to suit up alongside the nucleus of the squad who reached the Waratah Australian Basketball League grand final against Manly last week, including Andrew Allen, Scott McGregor, Butch Hays, Kenny Artist, Josh Clifford and Daniel Proctor.

McGregor said Pearce would be joined by Parramatta players Goran Veg, Stef Blaszcynski and possibly Clint Reed.

And former Pirates shooting guard Matt Shanahan was also keen to play.

The Kings will run a coaching clinic between 4.30pm and 5.30pm and the game starts at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $20 for a family, and children under 16 are free.
