Mustangs go close to Kings

SYDNEY Kings dug deep to hold off a Maitland Mustangs invitational all-star team 82-74 in the National Basketball League pre-season trial at Maitland Federation Centre on Saturday night.

Former Kings forward Scott McGregor scored a game-high 26 points and point guard Andrew Allen contributed 10 points, six assists and five rebounds as the Mustangs took the honours in the first half.

The Mustangs trailed 64-57 at three-quarter time.

Butch played some great basketball and could still match it with the Kings players at 47 years of age. It was a shame he got injured as he was outplaying his opposition. Think it might be a long season for the Kings. I don't think Robiliard has much of a clue as coach. He was easily outcoached by Tim Mallon for the Mustangs
