Nichols says youngsters in the hunt

27 Apr, 2009 05:00 AM
HUNTERS coach Darren Nichols is confident his young side is close to turning the corner despite suffering a third-straight defeat in the Australian Basketball Waratah League, going down 116-89 to the Sydney Comets at Broadmeadow Stadium on Saturday night.

The Hunters had no answer to a red-hot Comets outfit which was led by former Sydney Kings guard Blake Borgia.

Borgia scored a game-high 32 points, including an incredible seven from 11 from beyond the three-point arch.

Swingman Matt Cook led the way for the Hunters with 21 points, while young big man Matt Murjic grabbed 11 rebounds and nine points.

"We are a very young team but there are good signs," Nichols said.

"It was disappointing to lose a third game on the bounce, but I know a win is not far away."

In a disappointing night, the Hunters women also went down to the Comets.
