STOCKTON southpaw Daniel Ammann has signed on to fight Kiwi heavyweight Shane Cameron in the biggest bout of his career.
Ammann's trainer, Peter Hallett, secured the bout this week. It will be on the undercard of Danny Green's International Boxing Organisation world cruiserweight title defence against Paul Briggs on July 21 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Ammann, known as "The Doberman", will put on four kilograms for the fight to step up from cruiserweight to heavyweight class.
For the past two years the Australian cruiserweight champion has been desperate for a marquee bout to launch his career among the country's elite boxers.
Hallett believes this will be Ammann's biggest chance of his 23-bout career.
"It's a step up in quality of fighter, but the opportunity is there and when the opportunity comes along you've got to take it," Hallett said.
"There's talk that the winner of the fight will fight Danny Green after this one."
Cameron, known as the "Mountain Warrior", will undoubtedly be Ammann's most powerful opponent to date.
He has lost only twice in 26 fights and has recorded 20 knockout victories.
Ammann was offered a shot at the vacant Commonwealth cruiserweight title against his old foe Dominic Vea on July 1, but he chose to face Cameron.
"The Shane Cameron one, although it's a more dangerous fight, we feel it's also more prestigious and worth the risk," Hallett said.
