STOCKTON fighter Daniel Ammann has rejected a request from his Kiwi opponent Shane Cameron to downgrade their heavyweight bout to cruiserweight status.
"The Doberman" will step into the ring against Cameron tonight at Challenge Stadium in Perth on the undercard of Danny Green's International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight title defence against Paul Briggs.
There is talk that the winner of the Ammann-Cameron bout could get the next shot at Green if he successfully beats Briggs.
During the week Ammann's trainer Peter Hallett received a request from Cameron's camp to move the weight limit for the bout from 95 kilograms to 91.
"We said, 'No, we've signed a contract for 95kg and we've trained for 95kg and we are 95kg and that's all there is to it,' " Hallett said.
"We're not shifting for anyone."
Ammann, who is the Australian cruiserweight champion, has fought the majority of his 23-bout career at 91kg, but he has had success at 95kg.
"He can fight at both," Hallett said.
"He can make 91 no worries at all, but at the beginning on the contract we accepted 95 and we've built him up a bit."
In the build-up to the showdown Ammann has undergone his most comprehensive training regime ever, which included travelling to Sydney and the Murray River town of Echuca to spar with Bendigo heavyweight Justin Whitehead in two rigorous sessions.
Whitehead is preparing for his own Australian heavyweight title bout against Colin Wilson on August 20.
"They were 10-round sessions, so we've done plenty of sparring and his fitness is right. We're ready to go," Hallett said.
