FORMER Waratah cricketer Burt Cockley is a strong chance of making his Australian debut in Mumbai today against India.
Australia could today play three one-day debutants for the first time in almost 24 years as they look to rest some of their key players ahead of the first Test of the Australian summer in just over a fortnight.
Having guaranteed a series win over India last Sunday uncapped trio Andrew McDonald, Jon Holland and Cockley could be given their chance for the seventh and final game of the series.
If they all three play it will be the greatest concentration of debuts in the one match for Australia since Simon Davis, Steve Waugh, Bruce Reid and Dave Gilbert were selected to play against New Zealand at the MCG in January 1986.
If 23-year-old paceman Cockley is chosen he will be the first Novocastrian to represent Australia since Paul Wilson played the last of his 11 one-day internationals in February 1998.
He would also become the first player named Burt (or Bert, as in William Albert Stanley 'Bert' Oldfield) to play for Australia for 62 years.
