JOHN Majurovski's 2010 state league campaign could be cut short by a late tackle that resulted in a broken ankle.
The injury will sideline Majurovski for 12 weeks, meaning the striker will be racing the clock to return before the finals.
After a slow start to the season, Majurovski was back to his goal-scoring best and West Wallsend were on a high after rising to second on the Northern NSW State League ladder.
Majurovski said he was on the end of a late tackle from a Weston defender in the final minutes of the first half of Sunday's game at Johnston Park.
"I was on a breakaway, had a shot and then I got hit by a defender from the side or back," the Bluebells forward said.
"It was a pretty late challenge. I actually saw the keeper save it and then I was taken out."
The experienced striker said there were no ill feelings over the incident.
"That's just part of the game," he said.
He conceded watching from the sidelines would take some getting used to, he said.
"Lucky the World Cup is on," he said.
Majurovski said it would "kill him" to watch Westy lose their recent momentum.
"The disappointing thing about it is I was loving it out there and scoring lots of goals," he said. "We beat Edgey for the first time in 19 years, which I can't believe."
In four state league seasons Majurovski has won leading goalscorer twice and finished runner-up twice and was the league's player of the year in 2009.
He sits at the top of the scorers list with eight.
