Eagles’ tallons out in Bluebells challenge

23 Apr, 2010 04:00 AM
EDGEWORTH clash with neighbouring rivals West Wallsend tonight in round four of the Northern NSW State League soccer.

Eagles co-coach Gary Wilson expects the derby at Jack McLaughlan Oval to be a tight-fought match after Edgeworth won their previous encounter by a goal.

‘‘I’m under no illusion how tough the game will be,’’ Wilson said.

‘‘They’ve got Maj [John Majurovski] now and Jacob Bailey is one we need to watch.’’

The absence of former Socceroo midfielder Troy Halpin due to suspension is a blow to Edgeworth, who were nearing full-strength after the return of key players Mark Wilson and Damien Zane from injury last week.

West Wallsend Bluebells coach Chris Miner will field an unchanged squad from last week’s 2-2 draw with South Cardiff.

On Sunday, Valentine Phoenix play Broadmeadow at Cahill Oval and South Cardiff meet Toronto-Awaba at Ulinga Oval. Both games will begin at 2.30pm.

Hamilton Olympic play Weston at Darling Street Oval on Monday at 2.30pm.
