HIGH-OCTANE Jets fullback Tarek Elrich is looking forward to returning to his explosive best and playing pain free for the first time in two years.
Elrich will undergo groin surgery in Sydney tomorrow and plans to be back to 100 per cent for the start of the Jets' pre-season in mid-May.
The 22-year-old has battled the problem all A-League season and had three plasma-rich platelet injections to get through.
Most games he played in pain and his contribution was restricted.
"I will be more free and not as hesitant to play the ball," he said.
"Left passing, mainly knocking long balls with the left foot, is what aggravates it.
"It will be great to have two new groins. I'll be like a new player."
Elrich was the Jets players' player last season but admitted his form had dropped.
"Apart from my injury worries we have played a different style this season," Elrich said.
"Branko really didn't want the fullbacks to overlap and get forward.
"I've always been an attacker, and hopefully I can get back to that.
"I'm going to train hard and make sure I am back at my peak when we come in with the boys for pre-season. That is what I really want to work on."
Elrich may not be the only Jet going under the knife.
Jobe Wheelhouse has also been plagued by groin problems and had injections to take the field in both finals games.
"I was sitting next to Jobe after the game last night," Elrich said.
"We were both in agony and he said: 'How have you been going for so long with this problem?'
"[Groin specialist] Neil Halpin had told him my groins were chronic and his were just in the early stages."
