Magic strikers conjure victory

15 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM
THE sharp-shooting strike force of Ashley Wilson and Kate Hensman delivered a major statement for defending champions Broadmeadow in the opening round of the Herald Women's Premier League yesterday.

Hensman scored a hat-trick and Wilson finished with a brace as Magic beat Valentine Phoenix 6-3 at Adamstown Oval.

The scores were locked 1-all at half-time and Phoenix led 3-2 until the 71st minute before Hensman ran riot with three goals in 17 minutes to carry Magic home to victory.

Former Maitland striker Danielle Buttsworth scored twice for Valentine.

The Emerging Athletes Program squad made a strong start in the WPL with the under-15 side beating Merewether United 3-2.

Edgeworth started their campaign in style by beating Rosebud 4-0.
